Bill Foley, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist has been captivating audiences with his moving and starkly honest photography for over 25 years. He has shot, published and/or lectured in 47 countries around the world, with emphasis on the Middle East. His photographs tell rich and deeply emotional stories for wire services, magazines and non-profit agencies. His photographs have been published in major newspapers, magazines and books, and have also been incorporated into annual reports and advertising. Widely exhibited and also held in a number of private collections, Foley's engaging photographs have made an indelible mark in the fields of documentary photography and photojournalism.

EDITORIAL WORK AND PUBLICATIONS

2002 ...... Center for the Advancement of Children's Mental Health, NYC  
Documenting children, adults and families with ADD/ADHD and Bi-Polar disorders, as well as portraits of all Doctors/Staff involved in writing  "Making Science Work", a book dealing with children's mental health issues. Published November, 2002, 60 pages, soft cover.

"Helping Troubled Youth, The Columbia Teen Screen Suicide Prevention Program." Published September, 1999, 66 pages, soft cover, 33 photographs. View photographs.

1996-1998 ...... Children's Aid Society/New York-Harlem Project, NYC

Documented the changes on a block in Harlem over a nine-month period in "Renewing a Block in Harlem: The Carmel Hill Project," published December, 1996, 85 pages, with 37 full-page black and white photographs. The sequel :"Phase 2 After the Renovations" was published in September, 1998. Highlight: Fifty prints were featured in an exhibition at The Museum of the City of New York. In 1999, images appeared in the very elegant annual report designed by Lissa Toole, Harper & Case, Ltd.

...... Save the Children, Various Locations
Photographed new and ongoing programs of Save the Children's global efforts in  Beirut, Lebanon, Amman, Jordan, Gaza and the West Bank as well as in Cairo, Egypt. Also photographed Save the Children's programs in North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas, North Dakota, and New York City.

1993 ...... Associated Press Special Assignment:  "Lebanon Now"

Three years after the Lebanese civil war ended, traveled throughout the country, documenting the changes over the last decade. Series of photographs released on the AP network in 1993.

1984-1990 ...... Time Magazine, Contract Photographer, NYC

Covered both domestic/international stories. Developed own story ideas. International coverage included Iran-Iraq War, Desert Shield, Saudi Arabia, Palestinian Intifada in Gaza/West Bank, and elections in Haiti. U.S. stories included photo essays on the day care crisis and homeless problem, the 1987 Wall Street Crash, and Nelson Mandela's first visit to New York City.

1978-1984 ...... The Associated Press, Staff Photographer, Cairo and Beirut - based

Covered major Middle East Stories, including Camp David peace negotiations, the assassination of Anwar Sadat, the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, the Sabra-Chatilla massacre, Bombings of US Embassy, Marine Barracks. Planned and implemented coverage of major stories for the wire service, organized spot news coverage, edited staff and stringer film. View the series of photographs for which Foley won a Pulitzer Prize.

TEACHING/PUBLIC SPEAKING

2000-present ...... New York University , NY

Adjunct Professor in the Tisch School of the Arts, teaching "Digital Frame and Sequence" an undergraduate production course. This course encompasses all the elements of 35mm still photography and multi-image sequencing. Photoshop and Final Cut Pro are an important component to this class.

2002-2003 ...... The Julia Dean Photo Workshops, Marina Del Rey, CA

Taught a three-day workshop "Designing the Frame," an advanced composition class. Discussed theories of composition/light as well as on the street-shooting exercises. Class photographs were critiqued by myself and participating students.

2002 ...... Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, NY
Slide presentation in connection with Gordon Parks' show at the museum: "Half Past Autumn." The slide presentation included portraits of Mr. Parks, Carl Mydans and other Life photographers.

2002 ......"After School" , NYC
Taught a digital photography class to 13-17 year olds in an after school program at the Frederick Douglass House Community Center in New York City. Class used Olympus digital cameras and Photoshop.

2000-2001 ...... Al Bayan Media Training Center, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
 
Taught 2-week photography workshops to both amateur and professionals from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait. Intensive photography course, dealing with all elements involved in photography: lighting, photojournalism, portraits and narrative photography.

Grant, Israel and Norway
Awarded a grant from the USIA to teach Photojournalism workshops in Gaza and the West Bank to working professionals as and students from Bir Zeit University. In Norway, lectured to professional photographers at three Norwegian newspapers and to students at four universities.

 Member of panel including Richard Haas, former NSC member, and Lesley Stahl, discussing "The Visual Image and its Impact on Policy-Making."
